Double Feature - Part II

Whereas the mix I posted yesterday sits comfortably in the dancepop side of things, this one is much closer to a peakhour mix. It's high energy through and through, with lots of electro, a touch of progressive, and a few strains of electropop scattered throughout. I'm quite pleased with the entire thing, though I do have to admit that the last four songs are easily my favorites - easily some of the finest electro house music I've heard in awhile. Perhaps this will be a good year music-wise after all.

Double Feature - Part 1

Since I haven't posted a new music mix in quite some time, I figured it's time for not one, but TWO brand new mixes. The first is pretty straightforward - dance floor friendly, mainstream pop music. The last time I posted a really pop-centric mix was November, so this is definitely overdue. There's lots of new stuff on here - some of which is just starting to rotate on the radio, and some of which is fading now. Either way, this is sure to start your night/party/weekend off strong.

Flashbacks V

My annual Flashbacks mix is a few days late, but I suppose that's par for the course, and by now, it's probably expected. Oh well.

Rather than blabber on about the music in this set, here are some fun facts about this mix:
* This marks the third time I'vs used a remix/rework of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit." The only other song in this mix I've used before is Wolfmother's Woman, which is mashed with Journey's "Any Way You Want It" here
* Oldest original sing in this mix: Arethra Franklin's "Respect" (1967)
* Most recent original song: Pussycat Dolls' "Don't Cha" (2005)
* Though it's the longest track in this set, "I Want Your Sex" is edited considerably. I believe the original is over 11 minutes long!
* If you don't download this, you are officially lame

Freak Out

My last few mixes have been pretty heavy on the pop music, so I think you'll find this one to be a nice change of pace. Though there are a couple of pop songs, the majority of this one fits squarely in the commercial, progressive, and electro house side of things. In fact, there there's at least one track from most of the major commercial house producers out there (recognizing that "major" is, of course, a rather subjective term).

As I was preparing my end-of-year mix last month, I realized I had missed out on the opportunity to use several of the biggest tracks of the year. As such, you'll find many of them featured her (Animal Rights, Phazing, We Speak No Americano, and One to mention just a few). If you've been to a club in the past year you've no doubt heard at least one - if not all - of these, so I hope you enjoy hearing them here. It's a pretty dancy mix overall, but I think it's a pretty good change of pace. I hope you like it as much as I do!

Bombs Away! (December 2010 Mix)

With just days to spare, I've managed to finish one last mix before my annual "top 30" compil-ation...and if you ask me, it's one of the year's best. Though it starts with a few nice pop tunes, it quickly transitions into a combination of progressive and electro house that at times verges on mind-blowing. Standouts include Robyn's super addicting "Indestructible", two amazing Avicii remixes, SHM's Miami 2 Ibiza, and the two Klaas tracks (happy to see he's back with a vengence!).

Hot, Dark & Dirty (November 2010)

My latest mix is definitely overdue. It's a bit heavier on the pop than usual, and though some of the tracks might be slightly outdated now, I think it's pretty enjoyable on the whole. You'll hear several contributions from producers I tend to use a lot (Freemasons, Bimbo Jones, David Guetta, Chew Fu), but there's also a good number of of remixes from lesser-knowns and first-timers...always a good thing! The mix does get heavier and more electronic toward the end, the the last track is pretty mind-blowing IMO. (Also really loving the Jump Smokers' work on Usher's latest, and DJ Kue worked over Kesha and turned crap into gold).
