Top 31 of 2009

My end-of-year mixes have always been some of my favorites, and this year is no exception. Once again, I had a hard time narrowing down which songs deserved to be here. In fact, I had such a difficult time that I ended up with 31 instead of the usual 30. Oh well. When it's all said and done, I believe this mix represents 80 minutes of the best mainstream house and electro sounds of the 2009. Here's to 2010!

One for the road...

So another year has just about come to its end, and thus this obviously the last monthly mix of the year. I know I say this about most (all?) of my mixes, but this one has a little bit of everything. From pop, hip-hop, and rock to house, electro, and progressive, this one really does have it all. And don't worry, there are a few of those 80's reworks that people love so much thrown in here too. :)

Now that this mix is complete, I'll be hard at work putting together my top 30 songs of 2009 for my end-of-year mix. I've got a fairly good idea of which songs I'm going to include, but if you have any suggestions, feel free to throw 'em my way. Which songs were your favorites from 2009? You might just persuade me to include it in the list. Hurry, though, because I've gotta' get to work fast!

Almost December

Despite the fact that the month of November has almost passed us, I'm calling this the November mix,. I'm doing this mainly because I've once again found myself with more music than I know what to do with, and I'm going to try to crank out at least one more mix before the end of the year.

This one is mostly house and electro, with just a touch of progressive (ie one song). If you're big into progressive house this may not be the one for you. If you like the rest of my mixes, though, I think you'll really like it - lots of great electro house from all of the usual suspects.

I enjoy your feedback either way, but I do hope you find yourself at least tapping your feet, if not standing up to dance wherever you are when you listen. Unless you're driving, of course. :)

EvolutionTwo

This is part two of a 160-minute set I put together over the past couple of weeks. It's pretty high-energy electro from start to finish, with tracks from many of my usual favorite remixers. If you've enjoyed my past electro house sets, I think you'll definitely like this one. In addition to a bunch of new tracks, there's also a healthy dose of 80's and 90's reworks. Perhaps a bit cheesy, I'll admit, but also a lot of fun, and exemplary of the way that as our lives change and grow, so does the music we love. Enjoy the evolution!

Because posts have been pretty few and far between over the past few months, I've managed to accumulate a massive amount of really good music that I don't know what to do with. Well, it's been awhile... (October 2009 Mix)

This the last mix I made before leaving Madison. Unfortun- ately, because of the craziness of the move and even more craziness in trying to find a decent job up here, I haven't gotten a chance to post this until now. It's pretty much mainstream dance music through and through. Although there are some really solid tracks here, you won't find any crazy electrobangers or lesser-known underground tracks. If you enjoy remixes of mainstream pop music, then you'll love this one. If it's the other stuff you come here for, you'll have to wait just a little bit longer. It'll be worth your wait, though, I promise. I'm putting together something REALLY nice for your upcoming Halloween parties. :)

All Good Things Come to an End...

Since I know a lot of you have been wanting (and waiting for) this, I'm posting the mix from last weekend's very last Foam Party. For being an extremely last-minute affair, I think it all came together quite nicely. This may be the last 4-hour mix I ever put together, and although it was rushed, I'm fairly happy with it, and I think it definitely contains most of my favorite songs to be released in the past 9 months.

This mix also represents the end of an era. Earlier this month, the Cardinal's infamous foam parties came to an end with the closing of the club. On top of that, Saturday's party is the last one that will ever happen on the deck. With that said, I'm not certain that I'll ever attend another foam party anywhere. If someone is going to step up and offer to throw one, I'll be there. But this may very well be the end for me. We had a good run - a crazy, intense, and exhausting run - but in the end, we did something not many others can claim to have done. We threw the wildest parties imaginable, and nobody who attended will ever forget them. I think that's saying something!

Thanks to everyone who was there and to everyone who helped to make this happen. We did well.

The Meaning of Pride

Forty years ago Sunday, a group of gay men and women fought back against a police raid that took place at the historic Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. Though not the first time gay men and women had ever fought back, Stonewall became a symbol of the beginning of the fight for equal rights for all. That fight continues today. And though we have a lot to celebrate this year (including securing marriage rights in multiple states over the past several months), the war is far from over. So while you're out celebrating this weekend, let's remember those who have fought before us to get us to where we are today. They deserve our respect, our remembrance, and our gratitude for not choosing the easy way out and instead standing up for what was right.

This mix is (quite obviously) a little "gayer" than my others. But I think it's a lot of fun, too, with a lot of 80's and 90's throwbacks, some classic dance floor anthems, and some new stuff too. It's a little out there, and a little over the top, but that's what the festivities are all about, right?

The May Mix

Set it Off

This is gonna' be one hell of a weekend.

First up is Indiequeer Discotech with the Bag Raiders(!) tonight at Majestic. Tomorrow is the first FOAM party of the year at the Cardinal. Not to mention the fact that it's only mid-April, and it's 81-degrees outside. So to celebrate the beginning of FOAM season, I'm rolling out this brand new, high-energy mix.

It's been awhile since I've put out a real electronic mix, so I'm pretty happy with this one. Whether or not we'll be throwing any foam parties this summer is still a bit up in the air, but this is the type of peaktime music you could expect to hear. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Do yourself a favor and get out to at least one of the big parties this weekend if you're in town. They're shaping up to be pretty amazing.

The April Mix

Back again with a brand new montly mix, and this time I've kept it pretty mainstream. I haven't posted a monthly mix since November (!), so this is pretty seriously overdue. There has been a ton of really great music released lately, which can only mean that summer is just around the corner. The songs selected for this mix represent my favorite remixes of songs currently in heavy rotation on the radio and in the clubs. And if there's a song on here that you haven't heard yet, you can probably expect to hear it more and more as the weather warms and people begin packing the clubs again. It's about time, isn't it?

DJ Nate Rusch - Dance Odyssey II (Electro House)

Although I enjoy a wide variety of music and regularly listen to several styles of dance music, Electro House is most definitely my favored genre. Electro House has seriously exploded onto the club scene in the past few years, dominating the mainstream club scene to the point where many danceheads complain of its saturation. I'll agree that it is at times repetetive, but there are many artists out there still producing quality work and solid, bangin' club anthems. Which brings me to the second installation of my "Dance Odyssey" series, devoted solely to Electro House.

There are a lot of really great songs in this mix, including a handful of reworks from the '80's and '90's. Nearly all of my favorite electro artists are represented here, plus a couple of new and emerging artists who have producing some really exciting tracks. Expect 80 minutes of non-stop, hardcore club bangers from start to finish (with a little bit of cheese on top :) ).
