RISE (Pride 2026)

It was quite a race to get this thing finished in time for Pride weekend this year. After the previously-mentioned laptop incident, I really had no way to mix any music until about two weeks ago, which is significantly less time than I usually allow myself to put together a Pride mix. And despite telling myself I was just going to keep it short(er) to make it easier on myself, this year's mix still clocks in at over two hours and contains 39 different tracks!

When it's all said and done, though, I'm very happy with how this came out. It's one of the more technical mixes I've done, with a much broader range in tempo than I usually work with (roughly 124-140 BPM). You can probably note the increases and decreases in tempo at a few different spots, but I tried to smooth them out as much as possible. That's one area that I think is actually a lot easier to do when live mixing, but you can't really correct anything if you fuck up in a live environment, and I'm not confident enough in my abilities to have that on record forever.

This is like the 18th Pride mix I've posted, so I'm not sure I can really say anything inspiring here that I haven't already tried to do 17 times before. The title for this mix comes from the
2nd to last song. Back when I was mixing a lot, I used to name my mixes by taking a few song titles that were in the mix and mashing them together to come up with something somewhat catchy. This time it's just a single word from a single song title, but it felt appropriate for the times. Things in the world - and particularly the States - are pretty rough right now, but as the song goes, we will rise again. Pride is about many things, but I think visibility and solidarity are now more important than ever. You might as well do some dancing while you're making a statement, though.
