Here we go again... (Pride 2019)

Every year before beginning to assemble my Pride mix, I panic slightly that I won't have enough tracks to put to together a proper mix.  I don't follow dance music like I used to, so I essentially have to start from scratch to find music.  And this year, like every year, my panic was unwarranted because as usual I've gathered more music than I could ever use.  So this is how I've ended up with the longest Pride mix I've ever assembled.  I sincerely hope everyone who listens can at least stick with it through the end at least once, as I think it only gets better as it progresses.

I always try to keep to new music only (roughly from the past year), but I did have to throw in the amazing Dash Berlin remix of the Chainsmokers' "New York City."  Though it's a couple of years old now, it somehow eluded me until now.  And it's fantastic.  There's plenty of great stuff here, but the other major standout to me is the beautifully haunting remix Illenium did of Halsey's "Without Me."  The last 30 seconds of the track give me goosebumps every time.

The heartbeat you hear at the beginning is a connection to the one you'll hear near the end, at the close of a beautiful tribute to a young talent lost way too soon.  Its inclusion in this mix seemed all-too-fitting given the struggle many in our community endure.  You are loved and never forgotten, indeed.

Fifty years ago, a group of courageous men, women, and trans people fought back against a discriminatory police raid of an LGBT bar, effectively changing the course of the gay rights movement in the United States.  It's taken 50 years, but things have certainly changed for the better.  And though we should take time to celebrate that, we also need to recognize we've a long way to go.  Social justice movements certainly seem to be cyclical, with periods of sudden, significant advancements interrupted by setbacks and regressions.  An unstable, wannabe dictator-in-chief certainly doesn't help, not to mention the disturbing number of lawmakers whose views have evolved little in the past 100 years.  It's as important as ever that the fight continue.  Yes, here we go again.
