The Meaning of Pride

Forty years ago Sunday, a group of gay men and women fought back against a police raid that took place at the historic Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. Though not the first time gay men and women had ever fought back, Stonewall became a symbol of the beginning of the fight for equal rights for all. That fight continues today. And though we have a lot to celebrate this year (including securing marriage rights in multiple states over the past several months), the war is far from over. So while you're out celebrating this weekend, let's remember those who have fought before us to get us to where we are today. They deserve our respect, our remembrance, and our gratitude for not choosing the easy way out and instead standing up for what was right.

This mix is (quite obviously) a little "gayer" than my others. But I think it's a lot of fun, too, with a lot of 80's and 90's throwbacks, some classic dance floor anthems, and some new stuff too. It's a little out there, and a little over the top, but that's what the festivities are all about, right?

Set it Off

This is gonna' be one hell of a weekend.

First up is Indiequeer Discotech with the Bag Raiders(!) tonight at Majestic. Tomorrow is the first FOAM party of the year at the Cardinal. Not to mention the fact that it's only mid-April, and it's 81-degrees outside. So to celebrate the beginning of FOAM season, I'm rolling out this brand new, high-energy mix.

It's been awhile since I've put out a real electronic mix, so I'm pretty happy with this one. Whether or not we'll be throwing any foam parties this summer is still a bit up in the air, but this is the type of peaktime music you could expect to hear. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Do yourself a favor and get out to at least one of the big parties this weekend if you're in town. They're shaping up to be pretty amazing.

The April Mix

Back again with a brand new montly mix, and this time I've kept it pretty mainstream. I haven't posted a monthly mix since November (!), so this is pretty seriously overdue. There has been a ton of really great music released lately, which can only mean that summer is just around the corner. The songs selected for this mix represent my favorite remixes of songs currently in heavy rotation on the radio and in the clubs. And if there's a song on here that you haven't heard yet, you can probably expect to hear it more and more as the weather warms and people begin packing the clubs again. It's about time, isn't it?

DJ Nate Rusch - Dance Odyssey II (Electro House)

Although I enjoy a wide variety of music and regularly listen to several styles of dance music, Electro House is most definitely my favored genre. Electro House has seriously exploded onto the club scene in the past few years, dominating the mainstream club scene to the point where many danceheads complain of its saturation. I'll agree that it is at times repetetive, but there are many artists out there still producing quality work and solid, bangin' club anthems. Which brings me to the second installation of my "Dance Odyssey" series, devoted solely to Electro House.

There are a lot of really great songs in this mix, including a handful of reworks from the '80's and '90's. Nearly all of my favorite electro artists are represented here, plus a couple of new and emerging artists who have producing some really exciting tracks. Expect 80 minutes of non-stop, hardcore club bangers from start to finish (with a little bit of cheese on top :) ).
